2014 Lake Map The Crystal Lake Preservation Association and it’s volunteers continued it’s vigilant effort to keep Eurasian milfoil from expanding in the lake. Over 12 bags of milfoil were removed during the season from the two main hotspots (the outlet and the southern end of the lake). The 2014 season was successful, yet the area nearby at Shadow Lake saw explosive growth of this aquatic nuisance. We need to continue our fight to keep this under control. Please help support our efforts with your yearly donation which you can now do here online.

Diver Reports

8/17/14

We completed the survey of Crystal Lake on 8/17/14. We started in the south end to double-check the entire area including where we found milfoil earlier in the season. We found no additional milfoil this time around. We then did a survey of the shoreline and again found no milfoil plants.

At your request we went into the outlet area and spent some time hand pulling milfoil. We pulled about 1/2 a bag or approximately 5 gallons of milfoil from the outlet. We found less in the outlet than last year. There was a good mixture of plants large and small but the overall numbers were down in my estimate. More work needs to be done on the outlet but overall it looks really good

8/11/14

We snorkeled the lower half of the outlet channel on Monday, August 11, 2014 and removed approximately 6 cubic feet of material (7 diver collection bags full). Overall this area of the lake looked good compared to years past but there is still plenty of Eurasian watermilfoil to find and remove. The native aquatic plants are quite healthy and dense, which makes it challenging to find and remove Eurasian watermilfoil. Unfortunately, watermilfoil was brittle and breaking up into pieces easily.

7/29/14

We did a survey of the south end yesterday. We did find 9 plants, six in one spot and three about 30 feet away. Nothing big and I did have them take pictures. I don't have the pictures yet but I will get them to you. The GPS coordinates are below. We will get the rest of the survey done soon.
